Rain, Rain Go Away.. | Columbus Ohio Photographers - Erika Venci Photography

With all of this wacky weather, I am beginning to wonder when it will actually feel like Spring. Yesterday, we received a late April Fools joke from Mother Nature.. 2 inches of snow!? And today it is pouring rain. My first outdoor family session of the year is in a little over one week so I am praying the weather changes by then!

If you have young children at home, you will understand that it can be a struggle sometimes to keep them entertained on a rainy day. We have been running out of ideas at our house. So, last week, my son and I headed to Hobby Lobby in hopes of finding a new craft we could work on inside. After making our way past all the things he wanted to hold or look at (I forgot how memorizing this place is to little kids!) we found some new acrylic paints and rocks! I knew he would love to paint rocks!

Art seems to be Bodhi's thing. He loves painting, music, dancing, everything art. When I asked if he wanted to make some art last week as the rain poured down outside, he was SO excited and immediately ran to the kitchen table as I prepped everything.

He absolutely loved painting the rocks and mixing all the colors of paint together and shouted at me across the kitchen, "Look, Mom! Bodhi doing art!".

I was relieved that painting the rocks was a hit.. even if he only wanted to paint for about 20 minutes!

What are some of your favorite indoor activities to keep your kids entertained?

Why I do What I do | Lifestyle Photographer Columbus Ohio - Erika Venci Photography

(It isn't summer without watermelon!)

(It isn't summer without watermelon!)

Current situation in my house:

There is a teething toddler taking what I can only hope to be a long nap, about 7 loads of laundry calling my name, 64 crayola crayons scattered on the first floor of our house (amongst other toys that I picked up last night), and 3 sessions waiting to be edited on my computer.

Running a business from home while taking care of a toddler and trying to keep up with the housework is not for the faint of heart. Am I crazy to love it? Maybe. When you are passionate about something, I guess nothing can stop you or slow you down.

Blood, sweat, and tears have gone into this business of mine. And I don't know if anyone outside of my business will ever fully understand that. It is hard to explain the extent to which I care about my families and capturing beautiful moments for them. The hours I spend editing photos until skin tones or colors look just right, staying up until 1am working on my website, sending contracts to my families, uploading galleries, studying and learning, the list goes on.. I do it all because I love it and I want to give my families the best.

Sometimes we don't realize all of the "behind the scenes" work that goes into running a photography business or any business for that matter. What you see is usually the tip of the iceberg of a business owner wearing many hats. When your sunset photo session in that beautiful field is over, it is time for me to really get to work and the 2 hours we spent together usually turns into more than 4 hours of editing for me behind my computer.

I'm telling you all of this because I want to share a little piece of my story with you and what it's like to be on this side of the camera. I pour my heart and soul into my images of your beautiful families. I feel so blessed to be doing many things that I love, including creating art for wonderful people.

As a way to keep in touch with my current and past clients, I would love for you to join me on my private Facebook group just for EVP clients. I will open up session dates and special offers here first and it will be a little oasis for my clients to ask questions or get in touch with me. Invitations will be sent soon and I hope you will join us!

Love and Light,

Erika

And a special shout out (again) to my amazing husband, Carmichael.. thank you for believing in me and my crazy passion to follow my heart and do what I love. I love you.

My 3 Favorite Things about Fresh 48 Sessions | Lifestyle Photographer Columbus Ohio

1. Family members interacting with baby

Is there anything sweeter than seeing a dad hold their new baby? These photos always get me. And siblings meeting their new baby brother or sister?! The best. I have been able to document these moments and nothing compares.

2. Tiny newborn feet

Here is the thing about Fresh 48 sessions.. they are FRESH! Your sweet baby has all these details that will change quickly over their first few days of life.. their wrinkled feet, cute squishy face, the way their hair is swirled, their umbilical cord or stump! I could go on and on.. we hear it all the time that these details are important to document because they are.

3. The love and excitement in the room

When I walk into a hospital room to document a fresh 48 session, I always notice so many emotions in the room. I can FEEL the love and excitement surrounding this new life. I am seeing people really in the moment and at the mercy of their emotions. Documenting real moments and emotions are the most precious photos to me. Yes, I still do a little posing with my clients, but the in between moments and candid photos are always my favorites and will likely be my client's favorites when they look back at their photos a few years from now.

Fresh 48 sessions are my favorite for a reason.. well, lots of reasons.. a baby being born is a lot like a wedding day! Why on earth wouldn't you hire a photographer to document this once-in-a-lifetime event?

Lifestyle Photographer Columbus Ohio | Baby Milestone Session - James + Jackson

With all of this rainy weather lately, I was SO happy we scheduled this session on a beautiful, sunny evening at Highbanks Metropark. I also took James and Jackson's newborn photos so it was SO amazing to see them again for their six months milestone session! I could not believe how much they have grown!

These two handsome guys stole my heart and I loved getting to cuddle them again! Added bonus: their parents are AWESOME and I always feel more like we are hanging out than having a photo shoot!

Enjoy the cuteness!

Love and Light,

Erika
